If yes, please give details in the area below for additional information.
Please let us know your first and second choices, as some days might already be filled with volunteers.
Tell us about yourself, your experience and why you would like to join our volunteer program and make an impact on the lives of our animals.
PALS serves people and pets from across the state of Iowa through its programs, which include pet adoption, humane education, community outreach, spay/neuter, animal cruelty intervention and much more. It costs roughly $15 to care for one pet per day. Would you consider becoming a PALS sustaining member and sponsor the life of a shelter animal, the truly helpless? *

  1. About a 2 hour commitment, as often as you like, regularly (weekly/bi-weekly/monthly).

  2. You will always be with an experienced leader.

  3. Volunteer shifts for both cats and dogs are 7-9a.m. and 4-6 p.m.

  4. Some people volunteer once or twice per week, while others volunteer once or twice per month. All of it helps!

  5. Work with dogs includes walking (and playing!), grooming, feeding/watering, dishes, laundry, giving medication and cleaning (inside & outside kennels and playpens). If you'd like to help with dogs but don't want to walk them, that's okay. You can help with cleaning and feeding while others do the walking.

  6. Work with cats includes feeding/watering, dishes, litter box maintenance/cleaning, grooming, laundry, giving medication and cleaning (and socializing!).

  7. You can choose to work with just cats or just dogs, or both! Shift training is mandatory, and dog safety orientation is required prior to handling any dogs.

We are also looking for people to help with fundraising events, such as our local farmers market stand, events, and spay/neuter clinics.

We are always interested in people who can help service our machines (van, lawnmower, etc).

And at the board level, people with professional backgrounds in law, finance, accounting, non-profit management, or public affairs are welcome.
